It's really common for users to change from proton to wine, or from wine to proton, or from proton experimental to ge, etc, and then realize their saves are gone for example, or that something happened and the game is not broken, or if it depends on a 3rd-party launcher then the game is gone.
Feature description
In the Wine tab of the Game's settings dialog, we can show a warning that changing the wine in the selector may break the prefix and lead to missing saves and the other side-effects.
We could ignore the warning if there's no prefix created yet.
I imagine that, if the prefix folder is already created, we disable the wine version selector by default so the user has to read the warning and change the version intentionally knowing about the possible data loss.
Alternatives
I don't know, anything to prevent users from breaking their prefix and losing saves

Yes, when I started using Heroic I also found this confusing. Even though the saves are not really gone, you have to find out that the folders changed.
