When a major release is made, it is permitted to remove deprecated functions.
This was not done for the 2.0 release.
It is probably too late now. (arguably it is a bug-fix?)
We should make sure to remember to do so for 3.0.

Do we have a PR? I am planning a little bit more cleanup of stuff around here, and we can always do a 3.0 at that point.
