Attiny3216 and 816 external analog reference

I will use a 1.2V external analog reference, but I couldn't figure out how to adjust the ADC speed and other details. Can you provide an example?

Where did you get that the ATtiny 1-series can rely on an external reference voltage for ADC DAC or comparator?
The datasheet makes it quite clear that it is not a feature.

My datasheet states the opposite (see the 4th bullet under "features" and the last 5 words in this screenshot)

You are absolutely correct!
I was looking in the chapter 18. VREF - Voltage Reference of ATtiny3216-17-DataSheet-DS40002205A.pdf but it only described the internal voltage reference.
