Tell us the problem or your need

I think it would be a good idea to have some subpage or a site that shows which programs work with Bottles and which don't. Something like WineHQ or ProtonDB. Yes, I know Bottles is using Wine, but it made installation (just point to the .exe file and it's working in most cases) and running software so much easier that even I could do it and check many programs quickly. But I'm just me and I can't check all programs on my own.

Describe the solution you'd like

As I wrote it would be good to have a webpage or even just a subpage on Bottles site where you could search programs that users reported. It would help to quickly show what software was already checked and what were the results.

I would expect even just a basic searchable and sortable list consisting of: icon (or alternatively just program type to not take too much space), name and rating.

Additionally having the option to click on the programs to see more details on them - version, last report date, release date, latest update date, program description, type, detailed type, category, did it need any tweaks or was it working on defaults, description of what is not working, link to program site, all the reports with their details (date, used OS and version, program version, bottles version, used runner, noticed bugs)

I thought about doing it on my own on github as some kind of list but I don't log often and it would need some active team maintaining it if we want it to be usable. I'd just like to drop from time to time to upload reports.

Other solutions?

It doesn't even need to have fancy GUI, it can be made in text form. For example:

  • G - Pekka Kana 2 = no problems
  • G - Sacred = no problems
  • G - Captain Claw = not launching
  • S - Paint.net = not installing and launching

After entering the last:

Paint.net
Category: software
Type: graphics
Detailed type: raster graphics editor
Description: Free image editor with simple and easy to learn UI.
Release date: 2004-05-06
Latest update: 2022-03-09
Version: 4.3.10
Last report date: 2021-08-27
Site: (site URL)
Needed tweaks: n/a
Not working description: Installation crashes after few seconds, portable version doesn't launch. Wine doesn't have libraries needed for this program.
Reports:

  1. 2021-08-27; Ubuntu 20.04; Flatpak Bottles 3.1.1; caffe-7.0; bugs: installation crashes

Despite there is no issue for this, we are already working on such db. I'll keep this open just for reference.
