very old dependencies, unable even to contribute

Hi @clauderic first of all nice and useful library. I was thinking about adding some touch e2e Cypress tests as well to make sure any updates will not break my application. Im now doing these locally but it would be better to have these while releasing updates to the core package.

But in the package json it was not clear which node version is used, so i got weird errors with storybook just to run it. Then i looked at the dependencies itself (dev ones) which are very old. My question is do you foresee any updates? I can add some tests but if these PRs then stay open long its a waste of my energy :)
