OboeTester Tap-to-Tone

This test measures the combination of input latency plus output latency.

It uses a microphone to record the sound of the user tapping on the screen. The generates a beep. An audio analyzer detects the start of the tap sound and the start of the beep. The difference in time is the tap-tone latency.

How to Tap

This can be a bit tricky. You have to make a tapping sound with your fingernail at the same time that you trigger a beep with your finger.

  1. Press START button.
  2. Tap straight down, quickly, so that your fingernail and fingertip hit at the same time.
  3. Wait for latency report to appear. (About one second.)

The app will display the current measurement. Underneath that is the minimum, average, and maximum latency measured.
