The main breaking change that warranted a major version bump was just the removal of support for v6 of the API, which was scheduled for deprecation anyway.

That issue is not yet fixed; the team is working on implementing sane defaults across various client libraries. It's taking longer than I would have hoped, but I think we're getting close.
