If it's not currently possible, can we add an account setting to hide user connect/disconnect messages?

sort of fixed in #368 - depending on exactly what you wanted to do. This adds an option to not save the activity data. so while you will still see connects and disconnects in real time, the chat history no longer has every connect/disconnect listed so when you log in next you won't see them.

I'll add another vote for this request: the connected/disconnected messages are pretty intrusive (and the fix in #368 mentioned above doesn't go quite far enough).
