[fish] [starship] How to open new tabs in the same directory? Terminal docs didn't help

I am using fish with startship prompt.

I followed the steps mentioned in Tutorial: Opening a tab or pane in the same directory in Windows Terminal link

Add the below code to config.fish

function storePathForWindowsTerminal --on-variable PWD
    if test -n "$WT_SESSION"
      printf "\e]9;9;%s\e\\" (wslpath -w "$PWD")
    end
end

But when I open new tabs or when I split tabs the current directory is not opened by default.
