  • Who

    • Hi, my name is Eric Herberholz, and I met Dave 6 years ago at Community Leadership Summit West, now known as CLSx San Francisco Bay Area. In Portland every year there is a CLS international contiguous with OSCON. This AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure cloud computing is new to me, and I hope to learn more from you as we journey together. My journey to cloud computing started at HP, where I worked for 11 years, specializing in their Partitioning Continuum. Previous to HP, I worked on a global private WAN, where I met Steve Jobs thanks to the Lt Colonel for whom I worked.
  • What

    • We are all learning today about simple server app deployment using AWS. In the near future, we will be covering Google Cloud, MS Azure and more.
    • I am not prepared to show you: “how to automate these tasks using BASH scripts.” I can followup on this, however.
  • Why

    • Why are you here?
    • How many here have experience with cloud server deployment?
    • How many have jobs related to cloud?
    • How many would like a job related to cloud computing?
  • How

    • Hands-on workshop
  • Results

Intro to DevOps - Deploying your first App (Hands-on Workshop)

In this workshop, you will get hands-on experience deploying a web application to AWS or Google. The goal is to help each student understand the field of devops through hands-on learning.

After an introduction, each student will be guided through the manual steps of deploying the LAMP stack to Linux servers in the cloud via SSH. Once the stack is installed, you will deploy a website. Finally, we will show you how to automate these tasks using BASH scripts.

This is an introductory course. No programming experience is required. But you should know the basics about Linux

Instructors: Eric Herberholz and David Nielsen
